James Marsden Can’t Reveal Much About Richard White in Superman Returns: “I can’t talk about all of that because they make you sign this very lengthy [contracts]. All I can say is that it’s a great role.”

Then James Marsden Reveals Richard White’s Role in Superman Returns: “Superman’s gone for a while. He comes back to find, in Bryan Singer’s words, Lois Lane with somebody who’s very Superman-esque. There’s a lot of similarities, so Lois Lane is engaged to this guy. They have a child together. It is emotionally a challenge for Superman to come back and see, I think because Lois has moved on with her life and she’s with somebody else.”

James Marsden on Love Triangles in Superman Returns, X-Men and The Notebook: Even though his last few films have had love triangles, James Marsden does not consider himself “the love triangle guy.” “It’s not something I seek out or anything, but I guess in the last few movies it’s been part of the dynamic. But at some point you go, ‘Well, am I not going to do a $200 million movie with Bryan Singer directing because it’s a dynamic that might be similar to what I’ve done before?’ No."

Similarities Between Bryan Singer’s Superman Returns and X-Men Movies: “Bryan by nature likes to work with people that he’s worked with before and that he feels comfortable around. It’s strange because we’re in Australia and surrounded by a lot of the same people who worked on the X-Men films yet we’re doing a movie about a guy with an S on his chest and a big red cape. So it’s fun and it’s exciting and in many ways it’s more comfortable for me to be playing a normal human being.”

James Marsden on Superman Returns’ Shooting Schedule: “We’re actually in the middle of shooting. I got a break in the schedule for a month and a half. Kevin Spacey comes in to play Lex Luthor.”

James Marsden on Superman Returns’ Australia Location: “Sydney is fantastic. My wife’s seven months pregnant. We were thinking about having the baby down there to get citizenship there. We’re really, really taken with the city.”

James Marsden on the X-Men 3 Director Switch: “Well, I have all the confidence in the world in Fox and the director that they deemed worthy of directing X-Men 3. Sure, it’s getting down to the wire. It’s getting close. We’ve got to make this movie. But we’ve done two before and there’s a comfort zone in there that we all feel like we’ve done it and we can do it again. Matthew Vaughn fell out for personal reasons or family reasons. Brett Ratner is directing and he’s a very competent director and I think we’ll be fine.”

James Marsden on Cyclops' Story in X-Men 3: Unfortunately, Marsden still does not know for sure what's in store for him in X3.
