'X-Men' actor joins 'Ally McBeal'

Taking a page from sports general managers, "Ally McBeal" executive producer David E. Kelley has been wheeling and dealing with free-agent actors.

The Hollywood Reporter said four new actors have been signed to join the cast: Josh Hopkins ("The Perfect Storm"), Regina Hall ("Scary Movie"), James Marsden ("X-Men"), and Julianne Nicholson ("The Love Letter").

Meanwhile, current cast member James LeGros is leaving the show, Lisa Nicole Carson will likely only return for guest appearances, and Lucy Liu and Peter MacNicol have announced their intention to scale back their participation in the series, the report said.

The report said Hall's character will be an expanded version of a three-episode turn she did as an associate lawyer last season.

Nicholson will also play a lawyer, while Marsden is rumoured to be ear-marked as McBeal's new boyfriend, The Hollywood Reporter said.
